This guide is an introduction to the research process that, while not being an exhaustive list of information resources available, should be helpful in getting started in your research about educational testing.  Below you will find pointers to suggested research terms about educational testing, materials in the library catalog about educational testing, websites relevant to educational testing, and links to library databases that contain information about educational testing.  Please use our email reference service, contact us at (310) 434-4254, or visit us in the library at the reference desk if you need further assistance.

The following websites will help you with your research on educational testing:
The American Psychological Association's Monitor on Psychology offers this 2001 article on concerns about fairness and accuracy in large-scale educational testing. The Monitor on Psychology is searchable for other articles on the subject of educational testing.
This is a U.S. Department of Education website dedicated to information on the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which is a plan for comprehensive education reform. The site includes fact sheets for parents, teaching resources and information on educational testing.
NBETPP, housed in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, is an independent organization that monitors testing in the United States. The Board provides ongoing information on the uses and outcomes of educational testing for decision making purposes, paying special attention to groups historically underserved by the educational system.
NOW is an ongoing documentary series from the Public Broadcasting Service. This page is dedicated to an episode that debated No Child Left Behind. There are links to opinions on both sides of the issue, as well as to further resources related to educational testing.
Fair Test “works to end the misuses and flaws of standardized testing and to ensure that evaluation of students, teachers and schools is fair, open, valid and educationally beneficial.” The site includes numerous articles on the No Child Left Behind Act as well as other topics related to educational testing.
The Educational Testing Service is "the world's largest private educational testing and measurement organization" and their homepage offers access to information about (and testing dates and venues for) such tests as the SAT, TOEFL, and GRE tests.

We believe that all children deserve a high quality K-12 education at the school of their choice. Nationally we strive to close America's vexing achievement gaps by raising standards, strengthening accountability, and expanding education options for parents and families.”
This is an action guide “designed to promote the National Education Association’s proposals for overhauling the No Child Left Behind act as Congress considers renewing, or reauthorizing the legislation. The Action Guide contains information, tools, and resources to help our state and local affiliates and concerned citizens and policy-makers participate in urging Congress to make the law more responsive to the real needs of children.”
Addressing concerns that educational tests were unfair to diverse populations, reform movements in the education test field came into being. This page offers a "statement developed by a group of educational leaders seeking to ensure that concerns for equity would be reflected in all efforts at assessment reform".
