Federal Trade Commission Privacy Initiatives
Addresses privacy concerns in online environments, with information about computer users' privacy choices, consumer credit file privacy, and complying with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
Text of the Act, from a U. S. Department of Justice site. Almost the "flip side" of concern about the government, businesses, or others invading the privacy of citizens, the FOIA concentrates on legally requiring the government and its agencies to make information about their purviews and activities available to the public.
Privacy Rights Clearinghouse
Focusing on consumer interests in the area of energy, telecommunications, and the Internet, the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse is "a nonprofit consumer education, research, and advocacy program. Our publications empower you to take action to control your personal information by providing practical tips on privacy protection. "
USDHHS Office for Civil Rights National Standards to Protect the Privacy of Personal Health Information
This U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) site discusses in detail the patients' Privacy Rule (which took effect April 14, 2001). The Privacy Rule "creates national standards to protect individuals' personal health information and gives patients increased access to their medical records."
United States Patriot Act

Philosophy and Religion Collection
