Websites on malpractice

The following websites will help you with your research on malpractice:
U. S. IOM: To Err Is Human; Building a Safer Health System
Historic report by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine (IOM) published in 2000. The report finds, in two of its studies, that from 44,000 to 98,000 deaths per year in hospitals may be caused by "medical error", mostly due not so much to lapses of individuals but to mistakes in the health system's organization. The report identifies, categorizes, and analyzes the major kinds of error as Diagnostic, Treatment, Preventive, and Other.
Summary of Medical Malpractice Law
This web site for a private law firm is included for information only, in order to give researchers a general idea of what is involved from a legal standpoint in California medical malpractice cases, and in no way is an endorsement of or advertisement for the firm.
The site gives the firm's interpretation of some main points of California malpractice law. It touches on such topics as the statute of limitations, damage caps, contributory negligence, etc.
Legal Malpractice
Nolo, a thirty-year-old organization and publisher whose mission is to "make the legal system work for everyone -- not just lawyers", presents information "to help people handle their own everyday legal matters -- or learn enough about them to make working with a lawyer a more satisfying experience". They do this by "[publishing] reliable, plain-English books, software, forms and this website."
This section of their site offers advice to the layperson wondering how to determine legal malpractice and what to do about it.
