National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) A site provided by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), located in Bethesda, Maryland. This site includes the full-text of such publications as Alcohol Alert as well as the full text fro useful pamphlets such as Alcoholism: Getting the Facts. There is also a section of �Frequently Asked Question� (FAQs) about alcohol abuse and dependence (alcoholism).
MEDLINE Plus Health Information: Alcoholism Links to alcoholism news, clinical trials, research, prevention/screening, specific conditions and treatment.
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) NCADD "fights the stigma and the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions.". The site provides information for parents and youth about drinking. The NCADD site provides a definition of alcoholism and a link to �Facts About Alcoholism and Other Drug Addiction. The fact sheets contain statistical sources.
Alcohol Abuse This site defines alcohol abuse, provides historical background, and explores alcohol's effect on youth and health. Available help is noted. This information comes from the Sociology Department at New York State University, Potsdam, NY.
National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) This site is provided by the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information. It includes a link to alcohol facts and publications and lists prevention program planners. NCADI is a program of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitative services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illnesses.
Alcoholics Anonymous A site created and maintained by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services. The information is provided in three languages (English, Spanish, and French). This site contains basic information about the organization, its mission, and the problems of alcoholism.
California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs The Department, in partnership with county government and in cooperation with numerous private and public agencies, organizations, groups and individuals, provides leadership and coordination in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive statewide alcohol-and-other-drug-abuse prevention, intervention, detoxification, recovery and treatment services delivery system. - site intro. Al-Anon - Alateen Al-Anon and Alateen are a world-wide organizations that offer self-help recovery programs for families and friends of alcoholics. This site includes information about the program in twelve languages. The information includes the 12 steps and the 12 traditions of Al-Anon, a Forum of issues regarding alcoholism, a directory of on line Al-Anon Family groups, and much more!
MADD: Mothers Against Drunk Driving MADD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding solutions to the problems of drunk driving and underage drinking and supporting the victims of these senseless crimes. The web site describes MADD�s victim support services and youth programs. Alcohol-related facts and statistics are offered for teenagers. The myths about alcohol are also listed and explained. In addition, the site contains a great deal of statistical information, including drunk driving fatalities by state, and legislation by state.

Library Databases relevant to alcoholism

The following Santa Monica College Library online databases may contain material relevant to alcoholism.  Databases may include magazine, newspaper and journal articles.  Off-campus users, please note: you must be a Santa Monica College student, faculty or staff member to use these services.
Nursing Resources
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition provides more than 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines and also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. Clinical Pharmacology provides access to information for prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs. CINAHL provides indexing for over 500 journals in nursing and other allied health disciplines.
Academic Search Premier, MasterFile Premier
Academic Search Premier and MasterFile Premier provide full text for over 6200 periodicals including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
Provides coverage of nearly 550 full text journals, covering topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods.
Health Source
Health Source: Consumer Edition offers information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Has full text for nearly 300 journals.
National Newspapers (1985- current)
Local, regional and national news coverage from selected newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Denver Post, USA Today, Christian Science Monitor.
