Websites on marriage
The following websites will help you with your research on marriage:
U. S. Census Bureau: Marriage and Divorce
This U.S. Census Bureau site does not give data on the numbers of marriages and divorces, but offers information on "the current marital status of persons, by age, sex, and race and the estimated median age at first marriage for men and women at the U.S. level. Reports are also published from special studies which collect data on the marital history of the population."
This Centers for Disease Control (CDC) site offers statistics relating to marriage in 1990 and provisional data on the year 2001. In addition, there are links to other sites that offer more detailed information and statistics.
Decidedly pro the traditional concept of marriage as a family-centerd institution, the Alliance for Marriage (AFM) is a "non-partisan research and education organization dedicated to promoting marriage and addressing the epidemic of fatherless families in the United States. AFM exists to educate the public, the media, elected officials, and civil society leaders on the benefits of marriage for children, adults and society."
